Poseidonia
Personal ongoing textile project

Poseidonia Oceanica: commonly known as Neptune grass or Mediterranean tapeweed,
it’s a seagrass species that is endemic to the Mediterranean Sea. It forms large underwater meadows that are an important part of the ecosystem. The fruit is free-floating and known in Italy as "the olive of the sea" (l'oliva di mare).

This is an upcycled collection, in order to give fabric a second chance. Each Furoshiki is hand-painted and the patterns slightly differer from each others in colors and shape. The series symbolizes a bridge between Japanese and Italian cultures, opposite on many levels, but quite similar in terms of slow living.

Furoshiki (furo=bath and shiki=something to spread out) were originally used by Japanese people to hold their belongings while visiting the public baths and to step on them to undress and dress before and after the ritual. A green alternative to wrapping paper, they can also be used in many different ways: from holding or carrying things around, to decorating a table or a wall.
